Today we feature Kayla Santiano, an out-of-state incoming first year student joining us from Burlington, Massachusetts. Kayla will study Geology and live on campus in the fall.

Welcome to Rowan! Could you share with us one thing you are looking forward in college?

Meeting new people and being in a new environment. (Being on my own and away from my parents!)

What is one hobby, activity, sport or club you were a part of in high school that you’d like to continue in college?

I am open to trying out some new activities in college.

Is there anything you’re hoping to discover about yourself in college?

Proving my independence.

What majors are you considering and why?

My major is geology because I have always loved sciences and the Earth. (I just really like rocks.)

Did you tour Rowan or attend any virtual events?

Yes, I attended a few online events and toured Rowan in person. I participated in the Rowan After Hours (RAH) introduction as well as a Geology major overview. I really loved all of the staff I talked to. They were all very friendly and the welcoming environment is what drove me to Rowan. I really enjoyed my in person campus tour my tour guide was really fun and taught me a lot about the school history as well as showing me a few classrooms.

Do you have advice for other high school seniors who haven’t committed to a school yet?

Find somewhere where you feel comfortable.

What is one thing about Rowan itself that you liked?

I really liked the small class sizes and that the teachers are very involved with their students.

If you are from out of state, why did you choose a university not in your home state?

I am from Massachusetts and I chose Rowan because I prefer to have smaller classes whereas schools in Mass can have class sizes of a few hundred students. Of all of the online events I went to, Rowan’s events were the most impressive. All of the staff was very welcoming and answered any and all questions where other calls for other schools ignored questions. Rowan was the only school that showed they cared for their students before they even become their students.
