Today we feature LaDaysha White, a first-generation senior Sociology major from Florence, NJ (Burlington County). She also has a Certificate of Undergraduate study in Public Policy. LaDaysha is a transfer student from Ramapo College of New Jersey, and she tells us about her Rowan experience.

Tell us a little bit about your favorite class at Rowan so far.

Thus far my favorite class has been Creative Dance for children. While this class strictly met a requirement for me, it honestly taught me so much and has applied me with many tools that I can use throughout my life. I truly enjoyed this course, and my professor was amazing.

Could you share with us one moment during your time at Rowan that made you feel inspired or confident that you’re in the right field for you?

I do not necessarily have a moment at Rowan that made me feel inspired and confirmed to me that I was in the right field; however, joining Rowan Institute for Public Policy & Citizenship (RIPPAC) has been absolutely amazing and honestly reaffirms for me everything I want to do in life.

What has been one aspect of Rowan that you’ve enjoyed so far?

The biggest aspect I have enjoyed thus far has been Rowan student life and just how much there was to do on campus (before quarantine). But also, I feel Rowan made a seamless transfer to making everything virtual. I have felt extremely supported by professors while going to school in the midst of a pandemic.

Why continue with your education this year instead of taking a gap year?

Personally, I took a break before making the decision to leave my previous four-year institution for Rowan. Now I am just so ready to finish my degree, start my career and have my dreams become reality. In my mind, that starts when I complete my degree, but most importantly, the individuals who are my WHY is what has kept me going.

What are your professional goals? And how is Rowan helping to support you in those goals?

Professionally I would like to make laws and policies with regard to criminal justice. Rowan contributes to my goals substantially by providing me with a respectable degree, surrounding me with well-connected faculty, and as many opportunities as possible to succeed and become the best version of myself.
