Today we speak with freshman Music Industry major Samuel Poku, who goes by Poku and is from Old Bridge, NJ (Middlesex County). He is the creator and visionary for the freshman group PROFFAMILY.
Why did you choose Rowan?
I chose Rowan because it was a really good place for me. Considering my major and the types of teachers they have and the opportunities they give, I really love the music industry program. I also feel like I wanted to start something and leave a legacy behind.
How have classes been so far?
Classes have been pretty good, I’m still getting a feel for everything. It hasn’t been easy at all considering COVID, having family back home and just all types of limitations. But I am really pushing through it and I have a lot of things in store and planned for my time here at Rowan.
Why didn’t you take a gap year?
Taking a gap year would not be me. I don’t like to take years off. When it comes to education in general, I want to absorb as much information and knowledge as I can especially in my major. Also be creative, be around different people and network. That is me.
What made you choose the Music Industry major?
I’ve been doing music my whole life. I have this passion, this heart for music and considering all of that, why should I do something else? Music is what I love, and I am going to be the best that I can at it.
What’s it like starting college at 17?
Honestly, I feel like it’s really amazing in a way because you don’t have too much to worry about since you are so young. You’re just getting started and you have nothing to lose. It’s like you have all this time and all this space to be creative and there’s no rush.
