Today we speak to sophomore Allison Gould, who double majors in Finance and Accounting. Allison is from Whippany, NJ (Morris County) and is a part of the Financial Management Association and the Law and Justice Debate team.

What is your favorite thing about a typical day at Rowan?

I actually like the food a lot from the Student Center. Also seeing people around campus, they are usually happy, which makes me happy.

What is one thing about Rowan that was a happy surprise?

That Rowan had a debate team, because I didn’t know that they had one. Now I am actually the president of the club. I did debate in high school and I wanted to continue to do it, so finding this club was a happy surprise.

Why did you chose your major?

I wanted to do something math related but I wanted it to be business. I really like math and I did not think I could do accounting at first. So, I did finance and then after taking Principles of Accounting 1, I ended up liking accounting. Also for finance I will have to know accounting anyway so I thought it would be a good choice to just double major. It was also only seven more classes for me to take.

Can you tell me about a club or group of friends that made you feel like Rowan was home?

I would say debate because it is just really fun and I like arguing. Also I think that going to events that RAH does made me feel comfortable. Even if I did not make any friends at them, talking to random people was fun.

Can you share with me an experience with a professor that made you feel care for?

My computer science professor Neil Toporski. We were just talking after class. We were talking about what I could possibly do after I graduate from Rowan, and I feel like I had made a really good connection with him.

Would you like to mention anything else?

When I visited Rowan for the first time I thought, “This is perfect.” Other schools didn’t make me feel like that. Rowan felt like home.
