Meet Dr. Gustavo Moura-Letts, associate professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry within the College of Science and Mathematics.
What is your area of expertise? Drug design and chemical reaction invention.
Share an “aha!” moment you’ve had within your discipline that made you feel passionate about your field. The first time I invented a new chemical reaction.
Share with us one aspect of student engagement that you enjoy most, and why? I really appreciate the moment when a student becomes aware that they are able to think about science rather than just do science.
Describe an experience you’ve had with a student that made you feel excited about educating the next generation in your field. Students are eager to do and create science, and I want to be able to capture that energy.
What is one thing you wish people knew about your academic discipline or your research focus? Organic chemistry allows for students to combine their academic and physical skills like no other dicipline. You are required to work with your hands and with your brain to create new ways to make molecules.
