Receiving an internship with Live Nation was music to Devon Dyer’s ears. Devon, senior music industry major with a specialization in music business from Hightstown, NJ (Mercer County), interned with the world’s largest entertainment company this past year. From her on-campus apartment at 220 Rowan Boulevard, she made Live Nation’s website her homepage, applied to every position she qualified for and made her dream come true. The first-generation college student says: “I believe Rowan faculty supported me and my growth while pursuing these internship opportunities. The experiences that I gained through my executive board position with the Student University Programmers and my experience with Rowan’s record label, Rowan Music Group, both helped me immensely with my professionalism and set me up for success.”

During the summer of 2018, Devon interned with Sponsorships, then Premium Seat Sales in the fall. She anticipated challenges going into her sales position, but overcame issues faced with sales by integrating a different personality needed for the job. Her hard work paid off because she now works for Live Nation as a Scheduling Coordinator for BB&T Pavilion in nearby Camden, NJ.

These internships fueled Devon’s passion. She loves live events, interacting with guests, and seeing their eyes light up when the show starts — it’s an extremely rewarding feeling. Devon explains how “the culture is great and supportive. Everyone’s really dedicated to the work they do, and I enjoyed being around like-minded individuals.”

Going into a new environment, Devon highly suggests knowing people’s names and treating everyone with the same amount of respect. She explains, “Treat the janitor with the same amount of respect you’d give your supervisors.”

Devon encourages other students to search for an internship. “Know what direction you want to go in, but don’t limit yourself. Keep an open mind and be determined.” Accepting positions outside of what she expected allowed her to grow as a professional and acquire skills she can apply in her future career. She now knows how to run social media accounts after managing Live Nation’s VIP Instagram account and manage her time efficiently. Devon is chasing the career she wants, one Live Nation position at a time.
