Today, we speak with Molly Moore, a junior art and secondary education major from Robbinsville, NJ (Mercer County), who rents a house off campus. Molly will share her #PROFspective with us on what it’s like to be a Rowan University student and how she’s getting the most out of her college experience as a Rowan Prof.

Share an “a ha!” moment you’ve had within your major that made you feel passionate about your intended field. I was previously just a Theatre Design/Tech major concentrating in Set Design. I decided I wanted to be an art 
teacher after working as a Theatre Tech counselor at a theatre summer camp, where I had the opportunity to teach kids how to build and paint theatre sets. Not many people know about all the behind-the-scenes work, and even less have any interest in it, so I only had five campers (there were about 200 in the performance part of the camp). I also had the opportunity to teach a scenic painting workshop to all of the kids in the camp. This is what really made me realize I want to teach art and be involved in theatre, where I can inspire kids to go into technical theatre. The five kids I worked with learned from me, but I learned so much more just being able to teach them.
Describe an on-campus experience (academic or non-academic) in which you felt that your future goals are supported. After changing my major to Art Education, I feel more confident and excited for my future career.
Share a moment you’ve experienced in which you have felt that Rowan is a welcoming environment for you? I
always love the events we do for Alpha Psi Omega, from service projects to Induction night.
Why did you choose Rowan? I chose Rowan because they had a recruitment table set up at New Jersey Thespian Festival, where I talked to a theatre professor and apply for the program on the spot.
What’s your favorite thing about your typical Monday at Rowan? Well on Mondays, I have a sculpting class at 8 am, where we work with wood and metal, so sometimes I’ll be half asleep with a welding helmet on that makes everything dark and a torch in my hand trying to stay awake.
On your busiest day, what academic, non-academic and social responsibilities are you juggling? I’m the set designer for all 3 Lab Theatre shows this year, which are fully student-produced shows in the black box (Bunce 159). So a busy day would be getting out of class at 7:45 and going to work on my set, sometimes until as late as 4 am.
